Shop Small to Help Support Local Businesses

It’s always a good time to support local businesses, but now more than ever our local small business owners need our help. During this trying economic and social time, it’s important to do our best to help our fellow community members as best we can. I’ve put together a small guide that you can start using today in order to help your neighbors and friends in your community who own a struggling business.

Gift Cards Are King

If you have a favorite coffee shop (local, of course) and want to give them a boost as they re-open, then why not buy a month’s worth of coffee visits up front in the form of a gift card? This will help their bottom line while also not really costing you more out of pocket in the long run because you are still getting the same number of latte’s, you’re just paying up front. Same goes for your favorite local pizza joint or book store. If you can afford to pay up front what you would normally spend in a month, then it can go a long way!

Leave Glowing Reviews Wherever You Can

If you are also hard up on the cash reserves at the moment, then you can still support your local small business! Simply hop on your phone or desktop computer and pull up as many of your favorite businesses up on Google search and in the right hand column, click “Leave A Review”. Businesses are graded and heavily favored by Google depending on how many reviews they have and how positive they are. The more 5 star glowing reviews you can leave, the better! Your business owners will thank you and they will actually see real dollars come in over time as their rankings in Google get better and better. Also, don’t forget to rate each business everywhere you can like Facebook, Yelp, and BBB.com. Every bit counts!

Change Your Gift Giving Habits

Ok, it’s easy and so convenient to just fire up Amazon.com when it’s time to pick out a gift for your loved one or friend. The selection is vast and the shipping is freaky fast and the prices are usually second to none. But, resist that urge for the time being! You may have to get creative with it during quarantine, but it is very possible to shift your gift giving dollars away from big box stores like Walmart and Amazon and toward your local mom and pop businesses. Instead of some trinkets on Amazon, why not give your loved one a gift card to their favorite book store and a voucher for 10 drinks at their favorite coffee shop? You can definitely support local businesses and still get great gifts your loved ones will enjoy.

Go Green With Your Next Purchases

Want to support local businesses and feel good about supporting the environment? Well you can definitely do both! Make your next shopping trip for garden supplies or pet care products at Zamzows or Edwards Greenhouse. They are both local companies who are doing their part to go green for the environment and will help you get all of your home, garden, and pet supplies you would need! We have a great coupon that will save you some green at Zamzows if you're shopping for some weed killer supplies. Just bring in a few samples of the weeds that are plaguing your garden or yard and mention the ad linked above and they will give you $5.00 off your purchase of any weed killer product.

What a great time to get out there and support the small businesses that make your community a great place to live!
